Proof and Mint State Gold EaglesThe American Eagle Gold Bullion program began in 1986 and all four denominations are produce for each year. The Proof coins are available in only the one ounce denomination in 1986, and only the one ounce and half ounce for 1987. All four sizes—one ounce $50, one-half ounce $25, one-quarter ounce $10, and one-tenth ounce sizes $5 were produce every year since 1987,beginning in 1988, in the proof version. The obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' full-length figure of Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The reverse design, by sculptor Miley Busiek, features a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings
Proof and Mint State Silver EaglesThe American Silver Eagle is only available in the one-ounce size and is a $1 denominated coin. A Silver Dollar! The obverse design is Adolph A. Weinman's full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. The reverse design, by United States Mint sculptor/engraver John Mercanti, features a striking heraldic eagle with shield, and olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left.
Proof and Mint State Platinum EaglesThe U.S. Mint began the Platinum Eagle program in 1997 and the design for the mint state platinum eagles has remained the same since 1997. They are minted in four denominations: The one ounce $100, the half ounce $50, the quarter ounce $25, and the tenth ounce $10 coin. All are minted with .995 platinum bullion purety and are amoung the world purest platinum coins. Platinum is 10 times rarer than gold and is used in several manufactured products. Platinum Eagles are amoung the rarest mint state coins in U.S. history and provide an excellent opportunity for numismatic appreciation as well as a bullion investment. Proof Platinum Eagles are not all the same. The design for the proof coins has changed on the reverse every year since 1997 and provide, in our oppinion, one of the best numisnmmatic investment vehicles in modern coins. Some of the rarest coins in the last century are in the Proof Platinum Eagle set and supplies are extremely limited. Here at GnS Eagle we suspect that any increase in demand will result in an extremely fast appreciation. An excellent type set inclusion as well.
